Calgary Neighbourhoods

You choose your neighbourhood because it connects with you.  It suits your needs far beyond the location and commute to work.  It provides you with community, a sense of belonging, and that happy feeling when you get home from a long's day work.  To us, a neighbourhood is more than a search bar sending you in a direction of homes based on location so this neighbourhood page is one with a wealth of knowledge on programs to help create a strong community in your neighbourhood.

Granting Programs

Have a great idea for your community? The City of Calgary offers neighbourhood grants to turn ideas into actions.  The Community Social Work program offers grants up to $1000 to residents  in eligible neighbourhoods to help lead projects that increase social inclusion, economic participation or foster truth and reconciliation in neighbourhoods.  For more information, contact NeighbourhoodGrants@calgary.ca

Lending Libraries

Lending and borrowing of goods, resources and services.

We borrow books and bring them back to the library, so why not use the same idea for tools, toys, baby clothes or sports equipment?  With traditional models of ownership changing, lending libraries allow users to share resources, goods, services and even skills without the burden of ownership. Lending Libraries help build community, clear clutter, and allow for more equitable access to resources.

Branching Out

YYC Tree Program

In 2021, our family participated in the Calgary Branching Out Tree program.  In short, upon completing a learning module on caring for your tree, you are eligible for a Calgary tree to be planted in your yard.  The program is FREE and helps expand our tree canopy in the city.  I can personally attest to it's program as being a forefront in urban development and beautification.  This years trees have found their forever homes in the yards of fellow Calgarians, however when the program runs in spring, I highly recommend signing up.
